The customer

Aberdare Town Football Club play in the Welsh Football League and South Wales Womens & Girls League along with boys and girls teams in most age groups. Their ground is situated on Cardiff Road, Aberdare, between the suburb of Aberaman and the village of Abercwmboi.

Aberaman were founded in 1892 and joined the Southern League in 1919. In 1926, they merged with nearby Aberdare Athletic, then of the Football League Third Division South to form Aberdare & Aberaman Athletic. However, the merged club dropped out of the Football League in 1927 and the arrangement came to an end the following year; Aberaman broke off and started competing as a single club again, while Aberdare promptly folded.

Aberaman continued to compete as a single club until 1945, when another combined Aberdare & Aberaman Athletic FC were re-formed. Once again, the merged clubs only lasted two years, and Aberaman went their separate way in 1947, and have continued in that form to this day.

The challenge

Aberdare Town Football Club have always had a traditional cash drawer system in their bar area until they decided that a new system would be better for them to be able to take the Club forward.

In December 2018 the club contacted us. The call from the Club actually came as a surprise to us for one strange coincidence… The call came from the clubs licensing officer, Ian Pearce, who had used us several years ago at a club in England and when he moved to Aberdare didn’t realise that was where we were based, and so we were pleased to be able to help once again.

The solution

The install saw a screen, cash drawer and receipt printer installed and connected up to the internet to provide a remote back office so the finance officer can keep track of what’s happening without even needing to be on the premises. Ian said of the work: “Chris and Leigh were superb – and they were the same at my previous club too – making sure that our installation went smoothly, our prices were input and updated with any changes before it went live and all the training we needed. The system is really good and it will allow us to expand to have other tills in other areas when we need them -it has already made a real difference to how we operate”. On the install, it was two different types that Ian has seen from CJ-Pos: “The two clubs had very different installs which goes to show how good they are. The first one was much more difficult as it involved very long cable runs to a central office computer and also had to link in to four tills in different locations, kitchen printer and receipt printers. The install at Aberdare was much easier with it all being in one place and the software being cloud based. We couldn’t recommend them high enough so if you think you have a difficult set-up it won’t be a problem for these guys”.
